Funny question

My friend Jeff asked me a funny question the other day tht got me thinking....
It all started when i was trying to explain how i understood a variety of languages just by being born in Malaysia...
Well, as the person tht i am, i spoke of this wonderful country of which i grew up in.. All the joys and experience i had in the country... N how i wld correct ppl here in the states when they call me a chinese.... Though i hav chines heritage, I consider myself Malaysian... thru and thru...
Obviously, i hav made my patriotism clear to Jeff (American born Chinese)...
N thn he asked me the next question, tht wld shake the foundations of my nationalism.
"Is ur country a democracy?"
Offended by his question.. i immediately answered him and defended our country's sovereignty...
"Wth all basic human rights?" he continued to question...
Thn, remembering the bumiputra laws... i explained our special democracy to Jeff, abt the affirmitive action programs for the bumiputeras and our efforts to rid ourselves of the effects of colonialism....
After hearing my answer... he chuckled a bit, and stated.. "It's funny how you can be so patriotic to a country tht treats you as a second class citizen".. he then continued on wth his work...
I just sat there... his words sliced a huge wound in my nationalism....
I know i love my country... bt is my love blind? Is my country akin to an abusive parent who mistreats his children?
Suddenly scenes of injustice flashed across my memory.. One filled wth hipocrasy and betrayal... Has my country betrayed my loyalty and love? Am i nothing more than a second-class citizen whose rights have been stripped becoz i m of the wrong skin color? Will my children be subjected to the same discrimination that my father and his father has gone thru?
And even more painful, will my friends, those i have shared my life with... my joys and my pains... those whom saw past my skin color and befriended me for who i am and not how i look... will they turn their cheeks and let this injustice go on? Will they feel no guilt from seeing my children grow up in an environment where they are regarded by their native land as second class citizens...
Coz thts how i feel....
Second class on my native soil...
Perhaps generations ago, my ancestors may have pledge their loyalty to China... bt for me.. n the generations after me.... we regard malaysia as our native soil, our origin, our home...
My patriotism is resolute, my friends, family and personal history can account for tht... For my love for my country is unwavering....
I would risk my life for Malaysia... N doesnt tht define a bumiputra in the end? A prince who would die defending his land? The land where he was born and raised? One whose loyalty lies with the land of his birth?

Consider this fact, an orang asli born in Malaysia, moves to Russia the day after, and lived there for 20 years of his life and returns at the age of 21, never before experiencing the Malaysian lifestyle, history, culture and pride, and not knowing what Laksa is.
Conversely, an Indian, who was born in Malaysia and lived here for 40 years of his life, speaks excellent Tamil, Malay and Cantonese, knows about the history of Melaka and understanding the struggles our forefathers went through to attain independence; And most importantly, loves Laksa, mee goreng, and roti canai...
Now, to my foreign frenz.... who do you think is more Malaysian and deserves a full citizen privilages and which should be treated as a foreigner?
If ur answer for citizen is the orang asli, then congratulations, you've won a brand new Lexus!!
Thts becoz, u knw tht in this beloved country of mine of which i would die for, ur skin color and religion is more important than the patriotism you have in your heart.

I would die defending Malaysia, n just turn the page if i read about China being nuked in the newspapers...
It is thus ironic tht the only entity that can challenge my patriotism wld be my country, whose laws regard me as someone unworthy to be a citizen.... despite all the thgs i wld do for her..
N thts wht i am...
A patriot, a neo-bumiputra, ostracized and discriminated as a second-class citizen on his own native soil.... The Malaysian Constituition and the many ammendments that has tainted it has thus effectively reduced me to an immigrant in my own country...
I love u Malaysia....
Bt u are driving me away... u have strayed frm the noble vision of unity and harmony of which our grandfather's conceived and turned into an abusive parents who has stripped the rights off its own children...
I wish u cld change Malaysia...
Coz many of ur children... who now reside in many other countries in the world, still love their home of which they grew up in and would like nothing more but to return to ur arms...
Please Malaysia...
Don't forsake the promises u've made...
We want to come home.......
