Survivor: Parliament

For the first time ever... I feel that Parliament News watching has now become my favorite pastime..

Back in the days of BN hegemony, I have resorted to watching American political comedies like the Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert shows... I rejoiced as I saw politicians in places of power reduced to comedic elements for our enjoyment.. Though it was all good at the time, I have always wondered what it would be like should our government official be subjected to such a treatment..

And then the next best thing happened... the March 8th election brought in more PR MPs to parliament... What followed is probably the best political videos I have seen for Malaysia... Big Foot, Treason, the richest unemployed person, Asking a disabled person to stand up when he clearly can't.. It was such a joke... One part of me felt sad for the barbarity that our parliament has descended to, but another part of me wanted to laugh cause that's exactly how I would expect 90% of Malaysians to behave should they be elected into Parliament..

But owh well.. the path to democracy is never easy... it may be bloody and full of violence.. or for Malaysia's case, it could be full of hilarious name calling and insensitive but funny side jokes... In fact, i am kinda proud of our parliament... The Americans have their corrupt lobbyist, South Koreans have their chair throwing, Malaysia has our name calling... LOL...

But all those aside... more important issues are being brought to light.. the repeal of the ISA and University Acts, the call for more freedom of speech, electoral integrity, freedom of information.. all of these issues have gained momentum in parliament, thanks to the increase in pro-reformasi PR MPs, a softer BN front, and an increase of parliament gatherings by NGOs...

So amidst all the name calling and nonsensical issues like charging MPs with sedition... Malaysians are made aware of important issues that have long been kept away from us by our esteemed overlords...
